In Spring 2015, when a gentleman told me wanted this girl life-sized for his personal Golden Retriever cemetery, I was excited; this would be the largest sculpture I’d ever made! Upon seeing it in clay, my client commented “What a good-looking girl! Thanks.”

The first life-sized “Merry Sunshine” graces the personal Golden Retriever cemetery at the home of a Cape Girardeau, MO couple. My collector writes, “My wife snapped this picture out the window this morning. One-year-old Josh was out with the gang checking out the new dog next to the azaleas. ‘Merry Sunshine’ is hanging out there while our friend is preparing her flat stone for mounting. We are delighted with your work.”

Upon receipt of the Certificate of Authenticity, my collector sent a charming email: “Not to be confused with the Jerry Reed song, Pretty Mary Sunlight, although our girl does fit the lyric nicely. ‘Pretty Mary Sunlight, she’s alright with me. Pretty Mary Sunlight she’s everything I need. Pretty ‘Merry Sunshine’, she’s alright with me.” Thank you, my new Cape Girardeau friends!

“Merry Sunshine” is available in life-size, half life-size and quarter life-size. Each is made by hand, one at a time, in Colorado, USA. Each is signed, numbered, and includes my mark.Joy Beckner Bronze Sculptor
